Chamomile is a herbaceous annual plant and the name’s etymology is from Greek, meaning “earth apple’’ [botanical name: Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) also known as “Water of Youth’’].
The flower extract of this herb has emollient and soothing properties for sensitive skin. It promotes skin health and relieves irritations thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
Chamomile’s active constituents, such as bioflavonoids, penetrate below the skin surface into the deeper skin layers, preserving its youthful appearance and getting rid of fine lines. Flavonoids are antioxidants and act as free radical scavengers. They also reduce skin damage due to UV light and therefore have a sun protection effect.
